Towers of toys are now neatly stacked in Shaker Logistics’ warehouse, waiting for Santa and his elves to deliver them to children in need this holiday season. The 400 pallets of toys are an $18 million donation from Hasbro to the US Marine Corps Reserve’s “Toys for Tots” program. Shaker is donating warehouse space between now and Christmas to store the toys – one of many community programs the company and its employees support.
Representatives from the US Marine Corps Reserve joined Shaker CEO Jason Smith and other dignitaries on October 18 at the warehouse for a celebration and press conference to kick off the annual toy donation campaign.
Patrick Lurenz, Coordinator of Toys for Tots for the Capital Region, noted that the organization handed out more than 680,000 toys last year to more than 400,000 children in 14 counties across northeastern New York.
“We are currently the largest Toys for Tots campaign in the nation,” Lurenz said. “This donation from Hasbro is a huge boost to starting off our 2024 campaign, and we are grateful to Shaker Logistics for donating the warehouse space so that we could accept and store these toys.”
Shaker Logistics and its employees participate in many fundraisers and community building efforts each year, including Convoy for a Cause and supply drives for the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and YWCA of Troy. A year ago, the company launched its “Fighting Cancer One Mile at a Time” initiative, which has led to thousands of dollars in donations to cancer charities.
“Giving back to our community is something that’s core to our values at Shaker,” said Jason Smith, CEO. “When Toys for Tots contacted us and said they needed help storing toys for this year’s campaign, we jumped at the opportunity to donate space in our warehouse. As a logistics company, we know that sometimes even Santa needs a little help making the holiday magic happen.”
