More than 350 trucks lined up along Route 5S in Montgomery County on Sunday morning to parade down an 8-mile stretch of road leading into the Fonda Fair. The annual event, Convoy for a Cause, raises money for local charities and brings together the community to cheer on their favorite trucks and drivers. For the first time, Shaker Transport participated in the event with five of its trucks and drivers. The event raised more than $13,000 for WGY’s Christmas Wish fund, which benefits children in the region through critical care services and recreational programming, especially for ill or homeless children.
“This was our first Convoy for a Cause,” said Tom Thorpe, one of Shaker’s drivers who participated in the event. “I had my daughter in the truck and we had a blast. The public support almost made me cry. It was a great cause and it felt overwhelming to feel appreciated for what I do,” he said. Thorpe had custom vinyl door stickers printed for all the Shaker trucks that participated.
Like many trucking companies, Shaker is actively recruiting drivers for its fleet, including CDL A drivers for northeast regional and over-the-road routes. The company recently increased its pay package and rolled out a $1,000 referral bonus program open to anyone (even people outside of the company) who refers a driver the company hires and employs for 90 days.
